Helping to save our squirrels

The Keswick Brewing Company is working together with The Tourism & Conservation Partnership to look after the Red Squirrel.

Unless action is taken now, our Red Squirrel could die out in England in fifteen years. 140 years ago, the larger American Grey Squirrel was brought to this country, and has ‘out competed’ our smaller Reds. Far more worrying however, is that Grey Squirrels carry the Squirrel Pox Virus, which is fatal for Reds.

Every time someone takes a tour we will donate 25p to Red Squirrel Conservation. We also have a donation box in the Visitor Area for any of our customers who would like to make a small donation to help support these beautiful creatures and make a real difference to their future in this country.

How can you tell greys from reds?


Squirrel Spotting
If you spot a Grey Squirrel. Please can you email or phone grey squirrel sightings where possible. This enables swift action to be taken to reduce this threat to our native reds. Phone - 0191 284 6884
If you see a Red Squirrel during your stay, let ‘Save our Squirrels’ know. ‘Squirrel spotting’ is really important, so they know where Red squirrels are still living.
